SACHIN H. JAIN, MD

Sachin Jain has spent his career inside the institutions he now challenges.

A physician, healthcare executive, and former federal policymaker, Jain is President and CEO of SCAN Group and SCAN Health Plan. He previously led CareMore Health, helped launch the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation during the Obama administration, and has worked across medicine, government, academia, pharmaceuticals, and health insurance.

That range of experience gives Jain an unusual vantage point on American healthcare: he has seen the system from almost every side—and participated in many of the compromises he writes about.

The Moral Alibi is not the argument of an outsider about what healthcare leaders are doing wrong. It is the self-indictment of an insider who has spent more than two decades watching good people—including himself—learn to explain away things they know are wrong.

Jain is a graduate of Harvard College, Harvard Medical School, and Harvard Business School. His writing on healthcare, leadership, and institutional accountability has appeared in leading medical and national publications.
